Careers

St Thomas More School is committed to providing impartial careers guidance to all of its students from 11 to 18 years. The implementation of a stable careers programme will support students to make well informed choices and realistic decisions for further and higher education, training and ultimately, a future career path.

Following the Gatsby Benchmarks to providing ‘good careers guidance’, the school intends to support each student as an individual through a multitude of opportunities to learn more about careers opportunities, such as engagement with local employers, Labour Market Information to inform the young people of the school of upcoming career sectors and growth, and personal guidance for each student on their career and learning decisions.

This space on the website will be used to upload information on opportunities such as university open days and enterprise activities, so students, parents and teachers can keep up to date with all of the upcoming events.

Dear Parent,

Here at Newcastle University we know it’s not just students who need support when considering university. Parents and carers often have just as many questions about the decisions their child is making!

Therefore we would like to invite you to The Real Deal Parent and Carer Event we are hosting here at Newcastle University on Saturday 7 October in the Herschel Building from 10am – 2pm.

The event is aimed at parents of pupils who are currently studying in Year 10 to Year 13/second year college, but open to anyone who has an interest in finding out more about the decisions students have to make regarding university study.

The Real Deal programme offers a range of optional, informal sessions that address common questions, such as:

  • which course and university?
  • what happens during the application process?
  • what financial and transitional support is offered for students?
  • what career options are available?

Registration begins at 9.30am with refreshments available.

Further information, including a programme for the day and session descriptions, can be found on our website.
To book a place on this event, please complete our Real Deal Booking Form.

Kind regards,

Emma Wardle
