Chaplaincy

School Chapel
Mr C Kettner is the school chaplain and works within school to develop the catholic ethos. The school has its own chapel in school, which provides a peaceful place for staff and students to reflect and have some quiet time. There is a hand crafted altar and lectern, and the main feature is a beautiful crucifix shaped stained glass window which is sunken into the wall to the back of the altar.
Class Masses
Each pastoral class has the opportunity to plan their own class mass. These take pace during lunchtime on a Friday and are celebrated by one of our local parish Priests. Each celebration of Mass concludes which a shared meal.
Retreats
Chaplaincy2-300x225We have a very active role in our diocese and have worked hard to forge links with the community and with our parish communities. We work closely with the Youth Ministry Team (YMT) to offer a range of out of school and overnight activities to allow the students to develop spiritually and promote the catholic ethos. Each student has several opportunities in their school life to take part in an overnight retreat at the Youth Village in Allensford near Consett. These retreats provide a great opportunity for the pupils to develop their faith in a fun and inspiring way.
Summer Camp
Chaplaincy1-300x225Every year the Youth Ministry Team runs a summer camp at the Youth Village which encourages students from all over the diocese to go. It is a highly popular event and gives the students a chance to spend time with other young Christians and learn about their own faith.
Fundraising
The whole school community is encouraged to think of the needs of others both in this country and abroad. There are several different fundraising events during the year. In Lent the whole school concentrates its efforts raising a considerable amount of money for charitable projects in the North East, Africa or this year in India. For more information about any of these activities, please contact our chaplain through the Main Office.
